Pulmonary Function Testing

Chest Medicine Associates offers a wide variety of Pulmonary Function Testing (PFTs). PFTs are used by your physician to diagnose lung disease, determine if you need supplemental oxygen, and to monitor and adjust the medications you are receiving as treatment for chronic lung disease.

The PFTs offered at Chest Medicine Associates include:

• Spirometry: A test which determines how well air moves in and out of your lungs
• Lung Volumes: A test which determines the size of your lungs
• DLCO: A test which determines how well oxygen is transported across your lungs
• FeNO: A test which looks for airway inflammation in patient with asthma
• High Altitude Simulation Testing: A test which is used to determine if you need supplemental oxygen while traveling on an airplane
• Oxygen Qualification Test: A walking test which is used to determine if you need extra oxygen when you walk or exercise
• Methacholine Challenge Testing: A test to assess airway responsiveness

All of the pulmonary function tests are performed at Chest Medicine Associates in our pulmonary function lab. They are all performed by certified respiratory therapist or medical assistants under the direct supervision of a physician.
